Experts hold cross-Strait dialogue on folk art

Experts from both sides of the Taiwan Strait called for more cooperation in folk arts to bring new vitality to traditional Chinese music.

They made the remarks at the fifth iteration of the "Cross-Strait Scholars Face-to-Face" series of academic activities in Xiamen, Fujian province, focusing on exchange and cooperation on folk music and traditional Chinese opera.

Wang San-ching, honorary professor at National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan, and Chen Geng, deputy director of Xiamen Minnan Culture Protection and Development Expert Committee, had an in-depth discussion on the topics.

They reviewed the history, current status, and trends of folk art exchange, as well as cultural heritage protection and inheritance.

Wang said since reform and opening-up began exchange and cooperation have continued to deepen, and in the process of integration and mutual learning they have further consolidated the intrinsic value of folk arts.

Chen stressed the profound impact of cross-Strait exchange.

The two experts expressed their hope for continued deepening of cooperation, contributing to the integration and development of Chinese culture on both sides of the Strait.

The series of events is promoting academic exchanges after the COVID-19 epidemic.
