Fujian's private economy surges in first quarter

Statistics from the customs of Fuzhou and Xiamen reveal a remarkable surge in the import and export activities of private enterprises in Fujian province during the first quarter. The total import and export volume reached 308.75 billion yuan ($42.61 billion), a substantial year-on-year increase of 14.3 percent.

The province's trade dynamics with foreign countries have notably leaned on the exceptional performance of these private enterprises. Specifically, exports amounted to 226.25 billion yuan, a robust 15.7-percent increase, while imports totaled 82.5 billion yuan, growth of 10.6 percent.

The export of labor-intensive products has shown accelerated recovery, reaching 77.13 billion yuan, a substantial 24.6-percent year-on-year increase, constituting 34.1 percent of the total export value of private enterprises in the province during the same period.

Simultaneously, the export of electromechanical products by private enterprises has also seen impressive growth, reaching a total of 86.52 billion yuan, reflecting a solid 9.6-percent year-on-year increase.

Trade with major partners exhibited stable growth, with the import and export volume of private enterprises in Fujian with ASEAN, the United States, Africa, and Japan reaching 81.57 billion yuan, 41.44 billion yuan, 15.86 billion yuan, and 9.51 billion yuan, respectively, increases of 27.7 percent, 17.83 percent, 5.61 percent, and 33 percent. Additionally, trade with other countries involved in the Belt and Road initiative reached 158.55 billion yuan, growth of 16.3 percent, while the import and export volume with other RCEP member countries reached 120.21 billion yuan, an 18.9-percent increase.

Moreover, imports of consumer goods and natural resources exhibited significant growth, with private enterprises in the province importing agricultural products worth 13.53 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 31.4 percent.
