This is the first gold medal won by a Fujian-born athlete in this year's Olympics, adding to the legacy of weightlifting excellence that the province has upheld for the past six Olympic Games, since the 2004 Athens event.

Weightlifting lovers might remember Li’s unforgettable moment in Tokyo, where a slight loss of balance didn't prevent him from standing on the champion's podium while breaking Olympic records. As the current world-record holder for total score in the men's 61kg weightlifting category, Li's strength knows no limits.

Having previously set a world record in the clean and jerk with a weight of 175kg at the 2022 World Weightlifting Championships in Colombia and clinched gold at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou last year, Li's achievements have been nothing short of extraordinary. His exceptional performance at the 2024 IWF World Cup this April, where he broke the snatch world record with a weight of 146kg, solidifies his status as a true weightlifting powerhouse.
