The 7th East Asia Summit Clean Energy Forum was held in Fuzhou, capital of Fujian province, on Nov 4, under the theme "Pragmatic Drive, Future Thrive". This two-day event centered on implementing the consensus reached at the East Asia cooperation leaders' meetings.

He Yang, deputy director of China's National Energy Administration, highlighted the achievements of China-ASEAN cooperation in clean energy. He emphasized that China and ASEAN, as two of the world's most dynamic economic entities, are committed to further advancing their collaboration in this sector.

The forum presented key data showcasing this growth: since the inception of power trade between China and ASEAN, over 75 billion kilowatt-hours have been exchanged, with green energy accounting for more than 90 percent. By the end of 2024, investments in hydropower, wind, and solar projects are expected to increase more than fivefold since 2014, with installed capacity projected to be 15 times greater.

Power connectivity has become a cornerstone of this partnership. China and ASEAN are aligning the Belt and Road Initiative with the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity, establishing a nascent regional green power sharing framework.

During the forum, representatives from energy departments of China and ASEAN countries, local government officials, energy company executives, financial experts, and scholars engaged in deep exchanges. The first China-ASEAN Energy Cooperation Ministerial Closed-Door Meeting was held, and the forum released significant reports, including the "ASEAN-China Clean Energy Cooperation Report 2024" and the "ASEAN Offshore Wind Development Roadmap".
