The 2026 Fuzhou International Dragon Boat Invitational and the Belt and Road Youth International Dragon Boat Invitational took place on June 18-19 in Fuzhou, capital of Fujian province. This year's event expanded significantly, drawing 68 teams and around 2,000 participants from 43 countries and regions across Asia, Europe, the Americas, and Africa.
The competition featured six categories: International and Hong Kong/Macao/Taiwan Regional, Belt and Road Youth, University, Elite, Municipal and Prefectural, and Fulong (Blessing Dragon). Races included 100m, 200m, and 500m sprints. The Fulong Group, in particular, showcased Fuzhou's distinctive dragon boat heritage with traditional 36‑crew boats.
As the starting gun fired, dragon boats surged forward, propelled by the rhythmic beat of drums and the cheers echoing along the Puxia River. After more than two hours of fierce competition, teams' performances showcased exceptional skill and teamwork, vividly embodying the spirit of unity, determination, and resilience.
Fujian, with its rich dragon boat heritage, uses such events to promote international sports exchange and cultural interaction, strengthening global friendships. The event also featured a Dragon Boat Festival Carnival and offered themed tours, such as "Explore Fuzhou with Dragon Boat Races", providing visitors with an immersive cultural experience of the city.
