Fuzhou Changle International Airport marked a significant milestone with the launch of its second runway and the inaugural direct flight to Amsterdam on June 23. The airport received a new "Civil Airport License", upgrading its classification from 4E to 4F.

This makes it the first 4F airport in Fujian province and the 17th in China, ushering in a new dual-runway era for the airport. This upgrade is pivotal for Fuzhou's goal of becoming a regional hub and super-large airport, enhancing international connectivity and economic growth.

As the first major international airport in China to be fully funded by local resources, Fuzhou Changle's second phase of expansion began in September 2021, with an investment of approximately 22 billion yuan ($3.23 billion). The expansion includes a second runway, a second terminal, and supporting infrastructure such as air traffic control and fueling systems.

The newly operational second runway, measuring 3,600 meters in length and 45 meters in width, is equipped with advanced navigation and precision landing systems, capable of accommodating the world's largest wide-body aircraft.

The new Fuzhou-Amsterdam route fills a gap in direct flights from Fuzhou to Europe, creating a new platform for trade, cultural, and tourism exchanges between Fujian and Europe. It also makes it easier for overseas Chinese to return home. Starting June 27, the route will operate regularly on Wednesdays and Saturdays, with a flight time of approximately 11 hours, significantly reducing travel time compared to connecting flights.
