Xiamen lights up for Chinese New Year

Xiamen will host thousands of festive events to celebrate the upcoming Year of the Horse Spring Festival, inviting visitors to join the celebrations.

From historic charm to luminous nights, the city offers a rich, colorful Chinese New Year experience like no other: stroll down the century-old Zhongshan Road, lined with elegant arcades and buzzing with festive energy; step onto Gulangyu Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to explore its history; and, as night falls, lose yourself in the magical lantern shows at Xiamen Horticulture Expo Garden, or be captivated by Minnan Timwalk, China's first Minnan-themed scenic area, that brings traditions to life on stage.

The aroma of Michelin-recognized cuisine fills the air, offering world-class dining experiences, while trendy boutique cafes unveil their latest roasts, providing the perfect artisan brew to accompany your explorations. For the authentic local soul, seek out guzaowei, a beloved, time-honored street food crafted over generations, which tells the story of Xiamen in every bite.

Spending Chinese New Year in Xiamen is now even more rewarding for international visitors, thanks to Fujian's first "one form, one bag, one code" facilitated tax refund service for overseas tourists, which launched on Jan 5.

After purchasing tax-refund items at designated pilot stores, tourists will have their goods packed in standardized, sealed bags, each labeled with a barcode corresponding to the tax refund application form. During exit procedures, customs officers only need to verify the sealed bag's integrity and scan the barcode to quickly retrieve the necessary information for clearance.
