Fujian sees stable growth, advances reforms in 2025
The government work report delivered at the fourth session of the 14th Fujian Provincial People's Congress on Jan 27 highlighted the province's stable economic and social development in 2025.
According to preliminary statistics, Fujian's regional GDP grew 5 percent year-on-year to 6.02 trillion yuan ($865 billion) while the general public budget revenue increased 3 percent to 372.34 billion yuan.
Retail sales of consumer goods rose 4.4 percent but fixed-asset investment and foreign trade both declined. Per capita disposable income for urban and rural residents grew steadily by 4.5 percent and 5.7 percent, respectively, and the urban unemployment rate among those surveyed stood at 4.7 percent.
•Industrial upgrade: The province advanced its economic transformation drive, strengthening advanced manufacturing and fostering the integrated development of innovation, industry, capital, and talent chains. The modern service sector grew steadily, and cultural tourism thrived, with the total number of tourists and their expenditures increasing by 10.6 percent and 12.6 percent, respectively.
•Innovation drive: Fujian enhanced sci-tech innovation and entrepreneurship, attracting high-level talent, including 106 individuals who joined national programs and 2,745 recognized as provincial-level talents. Meanwhile, the province has strengthened the integration of technological innovation and entrepreneurship, enhancing its capacity for innovation. Digitalization efforts were accelerated to further support high-quality development.
•Domestic demand: Nearly 10,000 consumption-promotion events were held, resulting in about 79.1 billion yuan in stimulated spending. Investment remained stable, supported by the issuance of local government special bonds and central budget funding.
•Reform and opening-up: The province implemented 352 major reform measures. Opening-up expanded, with progress made in building the core area of the Maritime Silk Road. New platforms like the China Center for BRICS Industrial Competencies were launched, and cooperation with Indonesia under the "Two Countries, Twin Parks" framework advanced. Cross-Strait integration demonstration zones also saw accelerated development.
•Integrated development: Fujian promoted urban-rural coordination through a series of pilot projects and urban renewal initiatives, including the renovation of thousands of urban villages and old residential communities. Some 31 billion yuan was invested to improve rural infrastructure and consolidate poverty-alleviation achievements.
•Livelihood improvements: New regulations promoted employment, helping create 545,800 new urban jobs. Education spending in the general public budget increased 3.6 percent to 132.6 billion yuan.
•Cultural and ecological gains: The province hosted some major cultural events and produced a series of excellent cultural works. The environmental quality also improved as Fujian was selected as a pilot city for the "Beautiful China" initiative.
•Security: Social stability and a secure environment were maintained.
