Zeng Yuqun, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and chairman of Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (CATL), attended a group interview ahead of the opening meeting of the fourth session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee on March 4.

He explained that in recent years, CATL has established a very robust and resilient supply chain and ecosystem. Looking ahead, CATL will increase its investment in research and development, particularly by applying more artificial intelligence methods. CATL will sell its products worldwide, while also promoting its technology and standards globally. It will continue to work together with its peers in the industry to make meaningful contributions to the development of new energy.

As a key hub for China's new energy battery industry, Fujian province has ranked first nationwide in lithium battery production and export volume for many years. As an industry leader, CATL has maintained the world's No 1 position for multiple years in both power battery installation and energy storage battery shipments.

CATL has invested over 80 billion yuan ($11.6 billion) in cumulative R&D, bringing together more than 20,000 R&D personnel globally and holding over 50,000 patents. It has established high-level R&D platforms such as the 21C Innovation Laboratory and the National Engineering Research Center of Electrochemical Energy Storage Technology, while carrying out joint technological research with universities and research institutes at home and abroad.
